Edward Mortey, a member of the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) National Communications team, has compared the 2022 budget to a funeral announcement.
According to him, the government levied punitive levies in the 2021 budget, forcing many Ghanaians to utilize various means to survive, resulting in dissatisfaction and death.
Edward Mortey, speaking on Accra FM, said the budget statement delivered to Parliament by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a week ago has nothing beneficial for the people of Ghana.
“The 2022 budget has come and in fact, it contains nothing good for the people of Ghana. This government continues to blame the hardship of this country on Covid-19 but clearly, we know that is not the case,” the NDC Communication team member shared.
Edward Mortey argued that despite President Akufo-government Addo's raking in $400 billion in revenue, it has not successfully used it for the benefit of Ghanaians.
He branded the debate over the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) as shameful, implying that the government is just seeking to put further suffering on Ghanaians after misappropriating vast sums of money obtained as revenue in the previous five years.
"The government is considering taxing Ghanaians because the vast sums of money it has collected over the last five years have been misappropriated. "The money was squandered due to corruption," Edward Mortey stated.
"The 2021 budget was solely brought to kill Ghanaians, and now the government is introducing the 2022 budget as the final burial rituals of Ghanaians," he said.
