Sista Afia, a Grammy-winning artist born Francisca Gawugah, has disclosed that before becoming renowned, she used to sell waakye in the United Kingdom.
She was sharing her grass to grace narrative as she joined her colleagues for a live band session on Accra-based Utv’s United.

“I was selling Waakye in the United Kingdom.” She explained, “I was selling rice and beans in other countries.”
In addition to Waakye, the singer disclosed that she is a nurse who has worked in two of the UK’s largest hospitals.
“I studied health and social care and worked at two huge hospitals, Reading Community Hospital and Nottingham Hospital, before attending university there,” she said.
