Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has reaffirmed his commitment to putting the interests of Ghanaians first in his role.
He stated that he took a solemn oath to protect Ghanaians' interests, and that is exactly what he will do Rt. When Hon. Bagbin returned from his medical in Dubai, he told members of Parliament as much.
"Hon. Members, to round off these discussions, let me restate my solemn pledge to the people of Ghana, which I outlined in my first formal communication to this House. "I will not preside over a weak House or be labeled as an errand boy of the Executive arm of government," he stated emphatically.
"This House is fully focused on discharging its mandate and will do so without fear or favor, affection or ill-will in order to ensure the ultimate best interests of the Ghanaian people are served," Mr. Bagbin continued.
Despite the fact that the House has begun deliberations, he also stated that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta must present a revised version of the 2022 budget to Parliament.
"The Minister of Finance presents an amended budget statement to the House with the aforementioned modifications and concessions. The House will then adopt these changes and concessions, and the revised document, along with the estimates, will be sent to the various Parliamentary Committees.
"I am aware that the Estimates Committees have begun their deliberations. It would then be up to them to reconcile the revised estimates with what they had previously considered and submit a report to the House for consideration," he added.
