Nigerian lawmakers have rejected a bill aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality.
Senator Biodun Olujimi of Ekiti State in the south-west was forced to withdraw the draft law after objections from her male colleagues citing "socio-cultural and Islamic concerns."
She told the BBC that having to deal with so many obstacles in the legislative process was "disappointing.
"Everyone is naturally terrified of giving women authority - for cultural reasons," she told the BBC's News Day show.
"That's what we're dealing with, and we believe it'll be difficult until there's legislation that makes it work for us," he continued.
She has stated that she will not give up the struggle for women's equality.
