Yvonne Nelson, an actress and film producer, has publicly demanded answers from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the rising cost of living.
Yvonne's concerns were sparked by an increase in the cost of cooking gas, which she claimed was so high that she couldn't believe it.
"The other day, I went to get gas, I couldn't believe the price. Is this what you promised Ghanaians, Nana Akufo-Addo?" On February 17, 2022, she tweeted.
She slammed the government in a tweet she sent out in early February. "Believing in this regime is like believing it will snow in Ghana," the award-winning actress tweeted.
Some of her followers responded to the tweet by expressing similar sentiments, claiming that they have been duped by politicians in Ghana who have repeatedly broken promises.
She discussed her political engagement in an interview on Accra FM on January 20, 2022, before stating that she had been the victim of opposition attacks and that government officials had stopped speaking to her because of her criticism.
"I'm always talking about the President. When something goes wrong, I tweet about it; they can look at my tweets...," she said in response to her detractors.
"Because of my tweets, people close to the president aren't even talking to me anymore," she claimed.
She said it was common for those close to the President to refuse to speak with her because she was critical of the government.
"Every now and then, when I tweet, I get a lengthy response from whoever is explaining something to me. 'Listen, the typical Ghanaian cannot see this, therefore please go out there and explain it to the average Ghanaian,' I urge. People are more concerned with the money in their pockets than with the information you're typing to me," she said, emphasizing, "I've never been quiet." Why is someone saying I'm silent when it's there, on Twitter?"
